Forensic Low Secure Services

Affinity Healthcare Forensic Low Secure Services provide secure inpatient interventions for both men and women who become mentally ill whilst within the criminal justice system. We also provide comprehensive, robust and timely assessments as requested by courts and diversion schemes.

The treatment of offenders is currently provided from the comprehensive and well established range of secure services at both Cheadle Royal Hospital and Middleton St George Hospital has recently opeened a brand new designated forensic low secure service based on Linden Unit.

Care pathways have been structured to meet the policy needs of both mental health services and the National Offender Management Service (NOMS). The highly skilled multidisciplinary team provide for both the mental health needs of the clients and also their criminogenic needs.

We accept referrals from all areas of the criminal justice system, including, court diversion schemes and also serving prisoners. The referred client group may include men and women.

  • Presenting with an acute psychosis.
  • Presenting with a dual diagnosis eg mental illness with substance misuse, personality disorder or learning disability
  • Presenting with complex needs.
  • Who require a secure environment during their treatment due to presenting needs.
  • Whose behaviour presents a significant and persistent risk to themselves or to others and who are likely to abscond.
  • Whose psychological and mental health status is undefined and a cause for concern to courts and criminal justice agencies.
  • Admitted formally under the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Requiring full assessment of mental state, psychological functioning or risk
