Psychiatric Intensive Care Service

Affinity Healthcare is proud of it's reputation as a high quality provider of secure intensive care services for men and women at both its hospital sites.

Affinity's PICU services work with the NHS, specialising in the treatment of resistant and 'difficult to manage' patients. Diagnostic uncertainty is often a descriptor for this 'difficult to manage' group, with complex co-morbidities present and aggressive and challenging behaviours common place. Our experience has identified 2 broad patient groupings:

Type 1 PICU patients - typified by a short term episode of care

Type 2 PICU patients - typically treatment-resistant people with a high level of acuity who require longer term support and intervention.

Whichever group a patient belongs to, we work intensively with them to make length of stay as short as possible and to achieve the best possible outcomes. Typically, a type 1 patient will be discharged within 25-28 days; Type 2 patients with longer term requirements for a low secure setting.

Referrers, purchasers and regulatory bodies regularly commend the teams for the positive outcomes, which allow people to move through the service towards rehabilitation and recovery.
