Women's Secure Services
Department of Health policy as outlined in Mainstreaming Gender and Women's Mental Health emphasised the pressing need to extend women-only provision in mental healthcare. The policy states 'a significant number of women express the wish to be cared for in a women-only ward as it makes them feel safer and more comfortable at a time when they are acutely distressed.' Single sex services enable a more focused and effective approach to meeting the therapeutic needs of vulnerable women.
Affinity Healthcare has responded to the government's programme by commissioning a range of low secure, intensive care and open rehabilitation services at both Cheadle Royal Hospital and Middleton St George Hospital
